The Stambaugh band program aims to develop students' comprehensive musicianship through a standards-based curriculum, including singing, performing, improvising, composing, arranging, reading, and notating music.
Music engages mind, body, and feelings, fostering intelligence and emotional expression. It holds cultural, individual, and universal value, contributing to physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.
Students must enter the music room appropriately, prepare their instruments, follow instructions, communicate coherently, and maintain appropriate behavior during rehearsals and performances. Full rules are available online.
Consequences escalate from documentation and parental contact to office referrals for repeated issues. Major behavior issues result in immediate office referrals.
Concert participation is mandatory. Students must arrive before call times and bring their own materials. "Concert black" uniform attire is required unless stated otherwise. Full performance expectations are available online.
Honorable, Organized, Understanding, Nurturing, Determined, and Successful. These traits define our students' conduct and attitude in the band program.
Students need a pencil, their method book (depending on their band level), their instrument, and necessary accessories. Details on specific materials for each instrument will be provided after the instruments are assigned.
Students will have the opportunity to see a demonstration of each instrument as well as test out a few that they particularly liked. After every student submits a preference form, Mr. Robinson will assign each student an instrument based on their personal preferences and the needs of the ensemble.
Instrument rentals are handled through Carlton Music Center in Winter Haven. They offer rent-to-own options, maintenance, and replacement coverage.
This is not recommended, but if you do, make sure it is one of Mr. Robinsons approved brands such as Armstrong, Bach, Yamaha, and others listed in the syllabus online. Mr. Robinson can also help you find one. Avoid cheap, low-quality instruments. Contact Mr. Robinson if you are unsure of an instrument’s quality.
Contact Mr. Robinson and he will make sure your student has everything they need to be successful. No student will be left out because of money. Participating in fundraisers also helps support the program.
Grades are based on class rehearsals (20%), playing tests (20%), written work (20%), and concerts (40%). Detailed grading criteria are available online.
Pre-excused absences for concerts must be communicated as soon as possible, at least one week in advance. Students with pre-excused or unexcused absences can make up their concert grade by performing their concert music individually.
Practice regularly, set goals, find a quiet place, break down difficult pieces, and use a metronome. Detailed practice tips are available online.
Be involved, check your child’s grades, ensure the instrument is brought home each day, know what your child should practice, and provide gentle reminders. More tips for parents are available online.
